6-9 pm
Downtown Willimantic
Another fun street festival in July
Third Thursday always offers a good time for everyone
Downtown Main Street in Willimantic will be occupied once again by the town’s new tradition of a monthly street festival during the 3rd Thursday of each month from May to October. From 6 to 9pm on Thursday, July 19, the four blocks of Historic Downtown Willimantic will be closed to regular traffic and everyone is invited to roam around and eat, drink, visit, and have fun while enjoying a wide variety of entertainment and shopping.
All through the street, multitudes of vendors will sell all types of food and beverage. An exclusive food to 3rd Thursday is the “Frog Dog,” from the First Baptist Church of Willimantic: An all beef, grilled hot dog with a unique selection of toppings, such as; guacamole, mango, jalapeño cream, and ginger apricot relish. Reverend Fred Shapiro says, “It’s the most unique hot dog experience anyone can have.”
Some other vendors include: The UCONN Dairy Bar, with cups of their famous ice cream; Hosmer Mountain Soda, with their delicious root beer floats; The Willimantic Lions Club, with homemade strawberry shortcake; Wing Express, with a wide variety of authentic Indian food; Tony’s pizza, with their locally famous pizza; and the Beer Garden, the place to drink beer and wine right in front of a musical stage.
There will also be many other tasty foods: Fried dough; Pulled pork sandwiches; empanadillas; falafel; hummus; Philly cheese steaks; stuffed cabbage; pierogies; kielbasa; spanakopita; Remy’s grinders and kettle corn, to name a few.
As always, live, quality music will fill the air. This month River City Slim and the Zydeco Hogs, Synaptic Groove, RJ, and Concentric are performing; along with many other talented bands and street performers. Other performances will be provided by The Iroquois Social Dance Group, the Red Skye Belly Dancers, and the ACT Youth Ensemble. Children’s activities will also be available.
The festival is free (though you can help by donating or buying the latest 3rd Thursday pin) and there is plenty of free parking. Bring the family, bring a friend, or meet a friend…it's all there. 860 456-1573 www.WillimanticStreetFest.com info@WillimanticStreetFest.com
